Since October 2013 an estimated 107,000 refugees have travelled through Milan. The city has welcomed them with the creation of a network of hundreds of beds, the efforts of many associations and continued donations by citizens. And at the heart of this all is the Milan hub, widely regarded as a model in Europe, mitigating the suffering of tens of thousands while constantly facing a lack of political response to the influx of refugees as well as the consequences of the closing of borders in the Balkans, Switzerland and France. We would like to tell the story of this metaphorical internal border in a four-part report. In the first part we told the story of the hub since its inception in 2013.
