The odyssey of the 629 migrants on board the Aquarius has finally ended in Valencia, after nine nights out at sea following the Italian government’s decision to close the country’s ports. The decision was closely followed by the foreign press and even caused a minor diplomatic crisis with France, while all eyes were on the Aquarius. Meanwhile, as the standoff with the NGOs continues, units from the Italian Navy and Coast Guard are left in charge of search and rescue operations at sea.
