Since October 2013 an estimated 107,000 refugees have travelled through Milan. The city has welcomed them with the creation of a network of hundreds of beds, the efforts of many associations and continued donations by citizens. And at the heart of this all is the Milan hub, widely regarded as a model in Europe, mitigating the suffering of tens of thousands while constantly facing a lack of political response to the influx of refugees as well as the consequences of the closing of borders in the Balkans, Switzerland and France.
